Number 4

My sweet college friend Julie tagged me...thanks Julie. I am supposed to go to my 4th picture file and find number four and blog about it...well, I didn't want to do it with out you here..so here we go...

Oh...it's Skipper! This was taken on a super fun trip to Dallas with Jayma and Ryker to visit Tracy at Kakies house!!

It was February  2003. Skipper was almost 3 and Scar was 4 months. It was wet and cold on our trip and we needed a fun place to take all the kids. Tracy found this wonderful little play place to go. The boys played and played and we mommies just sat and watched and talked. It was a wonderful trip and this makes me miss my sweet Missouri friends!  After we put the boys to bed...we stayed up late, took personality tests on the computer and had biscuits drenched with Pride of Dixie syrup!! YUM!! What fun memories!!

Thanks Julie...that wasn't so bad...I tag...Dallas, Lane, Cassandra and Kerri!! Your turn girls!!

Public Service Announcement

Ahem...tap-tap...is this thing on??

So far we have been to 2 different Fall/Halloween carnivals and I am deeply perplexed by what I am afraid is becoming a trend in this world........where did all the chocolate go?

Somewhere in the confectionary world...there is a battle raging between the gooey gummie candies and the long standing, ever-faithful chocolates.

Why dear friends must we succumb to the pressures of  society and pass this pseudo-candy on to our children and loved ones? Why do we eat things that look like worms or eyeballs or lobed off digits??

I do not want pretzels or lollipops. I do not need gum or sweet tarts.

I just want chocolate.

I NEED chocolate.

I think after birthing 4 humans, I am entitled to a little chocolate.

I think that as an air breathing member of the planet, YOU are entitled to a little bit of chocolate.

I am considering throwing my support to the candidate that has a "Chocolate Policy."

I admit to rummaging around in my boys candy buckets and removing the good stuff, placing it in a ziploc bag and stashing it in the fridge for later consumption. I admit to hiding it waaaaay in the back , on the top shelf behind the baking soda, so they will not try to eat my stash.  I am okay with that. Really, I am.

So please dear friends...as the holidays are fast approaching, please consider adding a little chocolate to your candy give aways. Because behind that precious princess or rugged cowboy at  your door, is a mommy who will need to steal that chocolate  for later!!

Thank you for your time...and chocolate! :O)

Welcome to Holland....

I ran across this the other day and it spoke to me. Chances are that it may mean nothing to you and that is okay. I blog for me-really. It's a place to vent and cry and wonder and record memories and feelings. I hope that if it does speak to you that you realize that you are not alone on your trip and maybe we can compare wooden shoes sometime!!  I tend to think though, that everyone has their Holland. Yours doesn't look like mine and mine doesn't look like any of the families that I know. But we are all here together, so we might as well make it the best trip through Holland that we can!! I hope you enjoy! --Dallas

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this......

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.
After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."
"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."
But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.
The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.
So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.
It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.
But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."
And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.
But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland.

It's late and I think I rambled here a bit....

Do you see what time it is?? I do..and it's late...or early depending on how you like to look at the world!!

Yeah..I am starting this post at about 1:50 AM!!

Tomorrow( well actually  today) my sweet sister in law and I are having a garage sale. I am purging my house-or at least I was and I decided I needed to pee, and then I felt the need to blog. Sorry, but it's true. I had to make a Sonic run a little while ago...don't tell Mr. Dad, I am suppose to have fewer and fewer Sonic runs...but he was asleep and I will eat the cup when finished so he doesn't find out!!

I have a great friend, who I am convinced is THE BEST garage sale-er I have ever known. That girl can flat make money at a garage sale. I am talking hundreds and hundreds...and hundreds of dollars. I am also convinced that this is one of her gifts. I bet when God calls her home (not anytime soon T) that He will put her in charge of Heavenly garage sales!!

Anyway..enough about T..back to me!

I think garage sales are addictive. I get started and I can not stop. I will scour my house looking for things to sell. If it isn't nailed down...slap a little sticker on it with a price and get it out of here!

As I was dropping things off at 11:30 at Sarah's house...I told her I was glad that we were doing this at here house...because of my little "sell it" problem.

The last garage sale I had..I found out I was preggers the next day. Rest assured that is not going to be a problem this time. You'll just have to trust me on that one!!

Well, I am going to go dig around and see what else I can get rid of..hopefully we will make some good Christmas money.

Please check in with me and make sure I don't sell a boy or two or 4!! Well, come to think of it...we are still paying on Skeeter, so he can't go...We paid a ton  for Scar and I'm sure I couldn't recoup (ha ha no pun intended there!!) our losses on him. And the other 2 really are kinda fun to have around!

Have a great Saturday...enjoy your time with the one's you love the most!!

Later Gaters....

Throw it off...

Today is one of THOSE days.

I am so tired. I am tired of trying to keep the house clean. I am tired of laundry. I am tired of the scheduling. I am tired of the demands of the world. I am tired of kids with bad attitudes. I am tired of having a bad attitude! I know that the vast majority of this stems from not taking time to visit with my Father.

I have tried to do all of this lately on my own. When will I learn that this never works?!

Evidently this is just an ongoing struggle for me. I  read a verse today that was very uplifting. It was in Hebrews:

...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverence the race marked out for us.

I have things that I need to throw off. My kids have things they need to throw off. Our family has things we need to throw off. I need to focus more on the eternal picture and less on the now of everything. There are important things going on here, but that doesn't need to be my focus.

I need to purge things from our home, from our lifestyle, from our everyday living. I need to sacrifice things at the alter of my Father. However, some things, I really don't want to sacrifice. I don't want to deal with the attitudes of  kids when they find out how that involves them. I know God is calling me..I am just acting like I do not hear him...and honestly I am paying for it- in different ways everyday.

I am trying to make small changes...maybe that is my problem. Maybe God is calling me to bigger changes. Changes that I am not ready to make. I guess I need to take a deep breath and just jump in. Both feet-in the deep end so I have no choice but so swim.

Do you ever have those days? Please tell me you do...I am totally ok with you lying to me! Misery loves company-right??

He did it! He really did it!!

I am having a proud momma moment and I wanted to share! Scrappy is being discharged from speech!!

Yes, after 2 years of Speech therapy 4 hours a week, he is getting out. His Apraxia is considered resolved.

His scores were very good. His lowest scores were in expressive language, which was what we expected..but it is still  in the "within normal limits" range.

Over the next 4 weeks we will taper down his speech times. 2 hours the next two weeks and then 1 hour for the last two weeks.

He has come so very far and we are so incredibly proud of him!

Way to go Scrappy!!  May God's promise of a future be yours now and always!!

I love you-always,
Momma

A few pictures of Sweet Skeeter...

Isn't he cute!?! Really it's ok..you can say it..I won't tell a soul!!
He makes me laugh!! HARD. He is going to be...no he is a huge stinker!
He has already figured out that he is cute.
He likes to use his little dimples and a smile to get out of everything.
Well, that and a  'Tooper did it!"

LOVELY!!! Look what Scar taught Skeeter to do!!!
Yeah..they are making armpit fart sounds.
Except that B can't really do it so he uses his mouth and just makes the motions.
It is one of those proud parent moments!!
I can't wait till Thanksgiving.
Scout's mom will probably give birth to live farm animals when she sees this display.
She will probably chalk it up the them being homeschooled!!
HA HA HA HA

Shhhh. I think he sees us. Don't move...he can smell fear!

I thought this one was sweet. I usually do not post pictures of me. Why? Really are you kidding me?? Who cares about me. It's the kids you care about...it's ok I can handle the truth!!

Scar's Story -Part 3

***6 years ago today, Scar was flown to Cardinal Glennon.***

We left Springfield with about $35 in our pockets. Mr. Dad owned his own business and was needing to finish a job to get paid. But God  had other plans for that too.

We drove. I cried. Mom cried. Mr. Dad tried not to cry. Skipper kept asking about 'Baby Toocer'.
My father-in -law got a speeding ticket before he even got out of Springfiled. The cop was kind enough to let him off when he found out what was going on.

We drove north. All the while wondering what was Scar doing? Was he hurting? Did he need me? Was he alone? Every St. Louis sign we passed on the way make my stomach turn. Was I really ready for what might be waiting for me?

When we arrived we made a mad dash into the hospital up to the NICU. They had Scar in a small isolation room. He was alive and at that moment, that was all that mattered to us. The nurse that we met was named Anita. She was an older nurse and I am confident that she was hand picked by God to be Scar's nurse. She greeted and us gave us the run down as to what was going on, what had been done and what we were going to do. Anita took Mr. Dad by the arm and said, "You owe your wife a steak dinner, she saved your baby's life."

Soon after, a small little man walked in and introduced himself to us. He was the doctor in charge of Scar's case. The surgeon followed soon after. They then explained to us that we were not dealing with esophageal atresia, but duodenal atresia. Scarr's intestines never open up. The intestines are a solid mass until about 6 weeks after conception, then by the grace of God, they begin to form the tube shape we all know. Well, for what ever reason that never happened with Scar. He was able to take the food in, but it never passed through his stomach, into his intestines to be absorbed into his body. They also stress just how close we came to losing Scar...they said we were down to a few hours. The doctor explained the surgery and said that it was an 'easier' surgery than the other, but recovery time was longer. They would also pull all of his little baby intestines out of his little body and look through  them to make sure there was not another blockage. The surgeon informed us that he had done a couple of theses surgeries the last being in June of that year.  Surgery was originally scheduled for that evening, but was postponed until the next morning, October 17.

When we got back to the waiting room to give the grandparents a run down on what was going on, we were so blessed to see 5 of our closest friends there, and 2 more were on their way from Dallas to be there.

The girls and I went down to the courtyard to have a few minutes alone and they asked what we needed. I said we needed money. I hated to say that out loud, but we had $35. We prayed and cried together. We finally found a hotel for all of us and went out for dinner. We found a TGI  Fridays down town to eat at. God was about to show himself again. After we ordered, Cary handed Mr. Dad an envelope with $1000-cash in it. As soon as our church family heard what was going on, they gave money...knowing that we were self employed and now out of town for an uncertain amount time. Everyone cried-again. God was there and holding us up and providing way more than we needed.

After dinner we found a small little room near the NICU and all gathered inside. We took turns praying and acknowledging ways that we had already seen God work and things that we were thankful for. It was wonderful and Tracy was sweet enough to write all of it down. (I still have that notebook, it is a very treasured possession.)

Everyone woke the next morning and was ready for surgery. We got to say one last good bye as they wheeled Scar off. He looked incredibly small on that huge gurney. He had lost down to 5 pounds the day of surgery. Once I again, I stood and watched strangers take my baby away. After those doors closed behind him, I stood and wondered what to do next. We returned to the waiting room for what I can only describe as a typical yet unbelievably weird presentation by my dearest friends.

Jayma, Tracy, Crystal and Robin had been shopping. They had come up with a postpartum-your baby 's in surgery song and dance number(if you could call it that)...while wearing dresses that were about 2 sizes too small. They did their thing. It was to the tune of the "12 days of Christmas". I got a small little gift with ever verse! Mr. Dad just shook his head. He was used to crazy things like this from them.

Later, we noticed a small camera in the corner of the waiting room that we hadn't seen before. Squeals of disbelief were shrieked. The girls ran down to find the security guards and see just what could be seen. Sure enough, you could see the WHOLE room from that little camera. The security guards just laughed and asked if they wanted to buy a copy of the tape.

Scar came through surgery fine. He was laid out on morphine for the next few days. The surgeon told us afterwards that Scar was indeed a miracle because upon closer inspection of Scar's intestines, they found a tiny, tiny little hole. They were sure that it was that small little hole that kept him alive those 5 days. The doctor also asked me about the failure to thrive thing. He wanted to know if any medical person ever mentioned that to me. I said," No, it was just a voice I kept hearing." He said that it had to be God trying to save this baby's life!

Mr. Dad had to leave St. Louis after surgery to get home to work. My sweet friends never left my side. There was always one of them there with me and mom to help take care of Skipper.

The nurses were a God send and made sure we didn't spend too much time in the hospital. They were concerned about Skipper too. They told us the best places to take a 2 year old. They got us a room at the Ronald McDonald House. They took pictures of Scar for Skipper and gave him a bag of goodies, filled with all the things they were using on/with Scar. Skipper was not allowed back and didn't get to see anything but pictures of Scar the whole time.

Scar continued to do well and they took his breathing tube out on 10-19. On 10-21 he was taken off of the supplemental oxygen. On October 22, I was able to hold him for the first time in 6 days. On the 23, they took him off the wall vacuum that was used to keep his stomach empty  He also has his first bowel movement. Which as weird as it sound was a huge answer to prayers! See..he never had a real bowel movement before...and this was what made recovery so slow with this surgery. But we hit that milestone and sailed on. I was also able to nurse him as well.

Anita and Eve, our nurses were a the best. They were so sweet to all of us. Anita pulled me aside one evening and put something small in my hand. It was an angel pin. She said that God had worked in big ways to save Scar's life. She laughed and said.."When Skipper and Scar are 13 and 15, you can look at this little pin and know that God saved Scar for a reason and fight the urge to strangle them!!"

Anita is the one that decided it was time for me to hold Scar. She asked the doctor to write it in the orders, since it was already done.

On 10-24, they took the final tube out of Scar and on October 26, 2002...we packed our little miracle and headed home. We got home to a spotless house..the girls had "broken in" and clean everything !!

God showed himself in so many way during that time. I really can not try to recount for you the number of times we clearly saw Him working. The biggest blessing is that Scar is doing great. Aside from his Celiac Disease...which we feel like was triggered by the doctors handling his intestines....there have been no complications since the surgery. We also had to have him undergo genetic screening for Downs syndrome while in the hopsital. It is unusual to have duodenal atresia with out Downs. But once again we were blessed and everything is fine.

Every year...the 3 weeks after Scar's birthday is a steady reminder of the power of God. We like to remind Scar that the large scar on his tummy is a daily reminder that God worked a true miracle with him!
*****
I know this was long and drawn out. But I have not recored this yet for Scar and I want him to know how mighty his God is. So thanks for hanging in there with me while I got this done!!

My apologies...

Dear Blogging Friends,

I need to issue you a written apology.

See, I have a need to change things...alot. I think it might be some deep misunderstood control issue on my part. Since there is not much around here that can be moved and redone..it all falls on my blog. I am sorry to do this to you. Mr. Dad feels the same way when he comes in and I have have moved the living room around-again!

I am sorry that every time you check in with me I have made changes to the place. I promise that I will leave things the way they are for a while. I like this one a lot!!

Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye.

Ok...well not really, I have a thing about needles and who in the world would take of things around here?! How sad to tell the boys.."Sorry kids, you momma made one too many changes to her blog in a 24 hour period!"

I pinkie swear.

Thank you for your understanding....Dallas

Scar's Story Part 2

The next minutes are a huge blur. They rush us back to a room and in less than 5 minutes,  there are 12-14 different doctors and nurses working on Scar. They do not have an oxygen mask small enough so they punch a hole in the bottom of a small styrofoam cup and have me hold that over his moth and nose. They work for what seems to be a LONG time.  All we know is that things don't look good.

They get him "stable" and up to ICU we go. They will not put him in the NICU because he was outside of the hospital and do not want him to bring anything in to the NICU from being in the outside world.I start making calls and rallying the prayer chain. Mr. Dad shows up and I give him what little info I have.

Once they get him in ICU...our pediatrician has been called and she comes in asking me tons and tons of questions, like "Do you do recreational drugs? Have you been exposed to a sexually transmitted disease?"

It is like 12:30 now and that small spot that was on the x ray at 6 ish is now full blown pneumonia. They pump a lot of fluid off out of his lungs. They call in all kinds of specialists. I talk to a cardiologist and a pulmonoligist. I talk to pediatricians. They evidently called in almost half of the doctors from our clinic.

Friends start arriving at the ICU waiting room. I am making phone calls. All the doctors can tell us is that 'He is a very, very sick baby."

I am standing in the back of the room looking out a huge window. Watching the cars light shine off the damp streets. There are about 15 other people with us in the room. Then I see this one older man walk in and my heart falls out of my chest. It was the Chaplin. He was the one person I did not want in that room. I didn't know why he was in there, but I was afraid that I thought maybe I did. He spoke calmly and softly to us and explained the situation in more of layman's terms to us.

Shortly after that, 2 doctors walked in carrying a HUGE book. They explained to us what the problem was-Esophagial Atresia and how it needed to be fixed-surgery. They explained that based on x-rays, it appeared that Scaar's esophagus was not connected to his stomach, but to his lungs...which would explain all the fluid that was there. I was instructed to call insurance and see if they flew him to St. Louis Children's or Cardinal Glennon Hospital. Cardinal Glennon was our hospital.

We waited for the flight crew to arrive and were praying that they would be able to get a small jet that way we could go with him. But that was not what God wanted for us.

The helicopter and crew arrived about dawn. Meanwhile we were praying for him and giving him what comfort we could with out holding him. The flight nurses came in and we signed all kinds of papers. Papers allowing them to fly him to St. Louis. Papers allowing them to get started immediately once he landed. Papers acknowledging that we understood the risks...tons of papers.

We said our good byes to Scar and the nurses assured me that he would be very well taken care of and that he was where he needed to be. They put on baby earmuffs to dampen the sound of the helicopter and a sweet little hat that said "Glennon loves babies". We went back to the waiting room.

A few minutes later, we stood at that same window we had been earlier and watch 3 total strangers load our newborn baby in a clear plastic box onto that helicopter. We watched as the rotor blades began to whirl. We watched as that helicopter lifted of and glided north and then was gone. We all stood there for a minute or two longer and then gathered all our things. We  had plans to make.

Mr. Dad, Mom, Skipper and I arrived home soon after. We had to pack for what we were told would be about a 6 week stay. Mom and Mr. Dad immediately got busy packing, loading and  making phone calls.

Not me. I stood there. I stood in my bedroom and did nothing. I stood in the hall. I stood in Scar's room and wondered if he would ever come back to it. I needed God to show himself to me in a big way. I have never felt so alone and helpless as I did then.

Little did I know that we had 4 sets of friends who were making plans of their own. God was about to show himself in an incredible way.

To be continued....

Do you see what I see??

I walked out the front door to this!!
This is my precious 2 year old...TIED TO A TREE!!!!

Now, before you call family services on me...I did not do this. His loving, caring, kind big brothers did this to him--then left him--and I found him.

There is a back story to this..the older boys were taking turns tying their leg to one end of the rope and then throwing the rope over the tree branch and using it a a simple pulley to lift each other off the ground.

Why were they doing this you might be asking??
I haven't the foggiest idea. I do not claim to understand their ways...I just raise 'em.

Somewhere in the chaos that is boys being boys...they did this to the baby. I guess I should be grateful that they gave him a whistle!?! Maybe for him to summon his mommy to come rescue him from the captivity he was currently placed in?? Who knows.
I couldn't make this up if I wanted too..I am just keeping it real here folks...just keeping it real!!

Scar's Story-Part 1

***Started 10-11-08. It took a little longer than I expected. I have broken it down a bit***

In February of 2002 we found out that Skipper was going to be a big brother. I was so excited and still the entire pregnancy, I worried. I had a nagging feeling that things just weren't quite right. I prayed for is heart to be formed completely. I prayed that all his organ would be inside his body. I prayed that his brain would develop properly. I prayed for his hands, his feet-you name it...I prayed about it or for it but was 'bothered' all 9 months.

On October 11, I went in for a routine check up and was told I was dilated to a 2 and about 50% effaced( sorry maybe TMI). We decided that if Scar had not made his appearance by Tuesday, we would intervene.

With less than a week away, I had tons of stuff to get finished. I went to lunch with the girls in my prayer group and then set about finishing my shopping. I knew that things were happening, but I was in denial...I can't be in labor...I have things to do!! I spent the entire afternoon running around. About 6, I called Mr. Dad and told him that I thought we need to get to the hospital. I call my OB(who we went to church with) and he tells me to go ahead and go. Mr. Dad asks if I mind if we stop and get him something to eat first...he is really hungry! Sure...I ain't got nothin' better to do...let's go get you some food honey!

Sure enough, I am in labor. I get checked in and we wait...at about 3 in the morning...Scar makes his grand entrance into this world.  However...the cord is wrapped around his neck....I panic thinking..."Oh no, I didn't pray about that!!!"  All the while knowing that I was not the reason this happened and I need to calm down.

Things went so smooth. He was beautiful..looked JUST like Roo. He was a tiny 6 pounds 4 ounces and was 20 inches long. We did our time in the hospital. Only once did a nurse ever mention anything to me that might indicate there could possibly be a problem. But she seemed to let it go, so I did too. We were discharged and went home. And things went down hill so fast and got so ugly.

Scar fed sporadically and when he did, it all seemed to come back up. At his first check up Monday after he was born..I mentioned this and was told, just nurse him in a more upright position.  Really? Can you even get more upright that holding a baby to nurse? But I said OK and we went home.  Scar would go LONG times with out eating. When we were able to get him to eat...it all came up again-now it came out his mouth and his nose.

We had to prop that sweet baby up in his car seat to keep the liquid from flowing out of him. The liquid was kind of a light green..not the normal spit up color or consistency. I keep hearing what I am convinced was the Holy Spirit talking to me. He kept repeating the phrase 'Failure to thrive."

I decided to call the after hours nurse and see what she thought. I called she wanted to listed to him breath. After she heard him, she said to go ahead and take him in and get it checked out.  I called a dear friend of mine and asked her to go with me. I didn't want to be alone. Mom needed to stay and watch Roo and Mr. Dad was working.

We got to the hospital and the doctor does an x ray and hardly touches Scar. He tells me there is a spot on his lung and to see our regular doc in the morning..they even made the appointment for me.  He said it was probably just a virus...note is was about 6:00 pm when this event occurred and about 8 when we left the ER. We get home and I relay my concerns to my mom and Mr. Dad. But we go about our business. I continue to hear "failure to thrive" over and over and over.

Scar has now gone almost 10 hours with out eating...remember, he is only like 5 days old. I get out of bed to try to nurse him again. Not because he is acting hungry, but I am about to bust. I can not get him to latch on. His tongue is stuck to the roof of his mouth. So I decided to get a bottle and try to pry it down and feed him that way. I make a TON of noise in the kitchen hoping to wake my mom up. Once again, I do not want to be alone.

She wakes up and we go into try to get Scar to eat. He does take some of the milk, but immediately give it right back to me. Milk is pouring out his little mouth and nose. He then aspirates and turns blue. I told mom to get her shoes on we are going back to the ER. Mr. Dad is asleep in our bed with Skipper. I inform him that we are going back to the ER, tell him not to worry, I'll call if I need him. Mom drives while I sit in the back with Scar in my arms. I run in and the nurse behind the desk is one that help us earlier. She says, 'You're back!" I responded " I am back and there is something wrong with my baby!!"

A bird in the bush...

See this kid? He is a super duper kid!
I am his mom-so I might be a bit prejudice about him!
He will be 6 on Saturday!

Scar LOVES animals. LOVES them!!

Today was bird catchin' day!!
Scar needed a few worms to attach to the paperclip he found and was going to use as a hook.
(Cue worm digging music)
Negatory on the worms...he will have to go without!
Worms..I don't need your stinking worms!!
He swings the rope and lets go...

He carefully positions the rope....
and patiently waits for the poor unsuspecting, helpless little birdie.

Hey mom! I don't think there are any birds here!!
Really? I wonder why?

I think I will rope the building and pull it down.
You go Scar!
NEVER doubt the determination and will of a kid.

Hey- Wait!!
What is he doing??

Forget about birds!
I'm gonna get some carrots and go bunny huntin'!

And so as the sun sets, it brings an end to the bird hunting episode with Scar. The hunter go homes and is oblivious to the fact hat he never stood a chance...but we won't tell him that!!

A day away...

Yesterday, Mr. Dad and I spent the day in Kansas City at a conference---Creating Successful Interventions for Tourettes , OCD and Aspergers.

It was wonderful!(Except for having to get up at 4 am--not so much of a morning person here!

We had a nice day together learning how to help Roo  and we took a few silly pictures...hopefully I can get those up for you soon.

We ate at the Cheesecake Factory and had a nice meal and didn't once have to worry if there was gluten in the food!!

We both got some really good information out of it.

We talked and shared ideas on what to try with Skipper.

We learned that there are many  TS families that have repaired holes in their walls.

We learned that he needs things written down...verbal instructions get lost somewhere in his head.

We learned how to recognize his signs when he begins to "rumble" and how to intervene before the rage starts.

All in all it was a very good day and I loved being with Mr. Dad.

Thanks you to my small group buddies for all your prayers over the past few days. I do whole heartedly appreciate you standing in the gap for me and holding my up before the Lord!! And I promise not to cry this Sunday!!

How refreshing!

After 3 days of not feeling so great, we got back to school today!

We spread a large blanket on the front yard and began our study of all 50 states. We began with Alabama.

We used dice to do math and jumped on the trampoline. We doctored a busted knee and tried to convince the injured that he was not going to die--and if it wasn't better in 2 months that I would then take him to the doctor.

We read chapters 5 and 6 from the book of Joshua. We talked about
obedience even when it seems like a silly idea.

Thanks you Lord for the nice day. It was very refreshing...for all of us!

Jeremiah 31:25
I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.

May God give you the refreshment you need this week...Dallas
