Tourette's wins again.

How do you tell an 8 year old that he can't.

It looks like Tourette's wins -again.

I have been in touch with the local baseball league. It appears they are going to use the safety factor as their reason to not let him play this year-and they do have some very valid points.

They did said he could play in the Bambino league....translate that-special needs league.

I guess I did it to him. I called and wanted to talk to someone about trying to find a coach sensitive to his situation. Someone that could take a little extra time to to help a kid with a few issues learn to play a game. I just felt like it was only right of us to contact the league first and not sign him up and then get to practice and them say.."Oh yeah, by the way...he has Tourette's."

So now we try to find a different sport. Maybe something a little less team oriented.

Good thing he is more resilient than his momma. I just want to cry.

Maybe he could take up underwater basket weaving. I hear there is a huge demand for those guys!

:O)

I'm so sorry! I know your heart is breaking for him. I will pray a good underwater basket weaving class opens up soon :).

I think that is sooooo very wrong! It shouldn't matter one tiny bit. However, have you checked out First Tee? There is a program there that I am pretty sure Kyle H has a lot to do with. It is a fantastic program with so much to offer young boys. Lots of character development along side golf instruction that is in classes of only 10. I am hoping that we might get one or more of ours involved soon. Let me know what you find out. I think he would probably be great at it! I think at the end of the lessons there is a father/son tourney. How cool!

What the heck? City governments are so useless. What does he have a tick that makes him whack other kids with the bat? A tick that makes him throw the ball at base runners? If you are okay with it and he is okay with it let him play. If he gets hurt he gets hurt. It's baseball it SPORT, people get hurt sometimes. That's life. I thought sport on this level was meant to teach sportmanship and charater? Dal this is gonna get long, but I watched a story about a HS kid with palsy, his right side barely worked and his twin brother ran cross country. His doctor tried to impress upon the family that exercise would help delay the worsening of symptoms. He decided to run cross country with his brother. Now, cross country is what it sounds like; across pavement, grass, mud, rutted roads, through woods and across small creeks. None of this is ideal for a kid who has half of his body that can't keep up with the other half. Anyway he was much slower than his counterparts. So his brother would back track after he finished and encourage his limping bleeding winded brother to the finish line. By the end of the season all the other teams were doing the same thing. 70+ kids running backwards to encourage a fellow competitor who is struggling is what sport is all about. Alienating kids to cover your sorry rear end from a lawsuit is not sport. I know there are other things that he can do, but this disgusts me.

I second Mary Jo on First Tee. Davis loved it. Learning golf etiquette, rules and playing against oneself not comparing oneself with others. There is the thing about golf balls and windows however. Maybe the school field across the street would be a great place to practice hitting. Or maybe near the baseball league office. They have windows right?
